Arrabbiata sauce is more than just a pasta sauce but a tasty tomato sauce ready to spice up your kitchen creations. Try it as a fiery foundation for hearty tomato-based soups and stews. Top off breaded Parmesan-style entrées, pizzas and flatbreads. Use it as a tangy tomato sauce for braising meats and topping off meatloaves. Arrabbiata is a bold and flavorful sauce ready to take on cheesy baked pasta recipes like Lasagna, as well as stromboli and calzones. Serve it warm as a spicy dipping sauce for fried appetizers.
Arrabbiata sauce is a classic Italian pasta sauce. Its name translates to “angry,” which is a fun way of describing its spicy tomato flavor. Arrabbiata sauce features red-ripe tomatoes along with extra virgin olive oil, chopped vegetables, fresh herbs and crushed red chili peppers. Think of this sauce as a spicy version of the classic tomato marinara sauce.
The main ingredients of arrabbiata sauce are tomatoes, olive oil and red chili peppers. Depending on the recipe, there can be many other ingredients to include vegetables, fresh herbs and spices.
If you like spicy sauces, this may be your new favorite. Arrabiata contains red chili peppers and is spicy compared to the mild flavor of Pomodoro sauce.
The term pomodoro fresco translates to “fresh tomato.” Our specialty line of pasta sauces gets its name from the Italian tomatoes used in these recipes. These handcrafted sauces boast a fresh-tasting tomato flavor.
This sauce does not require the addition of hot pasta cooking water, but the starchy water does help to finish your pasta sauce. Depending on what consistency and texture you like, you may add some pasta water—a little at a time—when you add in the hot pasta to the saucepan. The starchy pasta water helps sauces to stick to the noodles and also loosens thicker pasta sauces. It’s always a good idea to save 1 cup or more before draining your pasta.
You can think of arrabbiata as a spicy marinara sauce. The main difference between marinara and arrabbiata sauce is that the arrabbiata is a bolder, spicier flavor with the addition of crushed red chili peppers.
Our Pomodoro Fresco line of sauces feature red-ripe Italian tomatoes and just a few simple ingredients for a fresh-flavored homestyle taste. Our classic line of sauces, including Arrabbiata, have a richer, more slow-simmered tomato flavor.
