  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package directions. Drain, reserving ¼ cup of the water.
  • Heat the oil in a large skillet. Add the garlic and tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Add the crushed tomatoes and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Add the reserved pasta water and basil and simmer for another 20 minutes.
  • In a large baking dish, layer ⅓ of the pasta, ⅓ of the sauce and ⅓ of the cheese. Continue layering the ingredients 2 more times.
  • Bake for 20 minutes or until golden and bubbly. Remove from oven and serve.
