Description
DeLallo Feta Cheese Block (PDO) is an authentic Greek cheese made with an expert blend of sheep’s and goat’s milks. Aged in brine for at least 2 months, our feta cheese has time to develop a rich, pleasantly salty, tangy flavor and its signature creamy, crumbly texture. Cheese blocks come packaged in brine to prevent the cheese from drying out and turning sour.
The PDO seal on the label means that our feta is a certified authentic Greek product. Feta cheese is an iconic Greek cheese that has many uses in the kitchen—from topping to antipasto to gourmet ingredient.
Feta cheese is a versatile cheese that shines in a number of recipes and applications. Tangy, punchy feta cheese is the ideal complement to Greek-themed antipasto spreads and recipes (think: Greek Pizza or Greek Salad). Use feta cheese to top off hummus dips, salads, pizza, flatbreads and eggs. Whip up a Greek-style omelet with olives and roasted red peppers. Feta can be used to add some tangy, sharp flavor to cold pasta salads and grain bowls. Create a Baked Feta Cheese appetizer or turn it into an easy Baked Feta Pasta.
Feta is a soft white cheese that got its start in Greece. It is made from sheep or goat’s milk—or a combination of both—that is shaped into blocks and aged in brine. As for its flavor, feta cheese can be described as creamy, salty, tangy and sharp. It is often used on salads, in baked dishes and on top of pizzas. Feta is a staple in Greek cuisine.
Feta cheese is imported in brine because it helps to keep the cheese block moist and stop it from drying out. Brine-packed feta preserves its flavor and texture.

In Greece, Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) is a designation awarded to certain agricultural products, foods and wines by the European Union. This distinction is given to products from specific regions or areas that exhibit qualities and characteristics associated with that region. These unique characteristics can be attributable to factors such as climate, environment and production methods. PDO certification aims to protect the reputation and quality of traditional and regionally specific products, ensuring that consumers can trust in their authenticity and unique attributes. In the case of feta cheese, the PDO ensures that only cheese produced in specific regions of Greece using traditional methods and ingredients, such as sheep’s milk or a mixture of sheep and goat’s milk, can be labeled and sold as “feta.”
This protection designation is important because it helps to preserve the cultural heritage and traditional production practices associated with the product, while also preventing imitations or inferior versions from misleading consumers.
While buying crumbled feta cheese (or feta that comes packaged in crumbles) is convenient, feta cheese in a block is typically more creamy and flavorful. This is because crumbled feta usually contains cellulose or some other anti-caking agent, which can dry out the feta and give it a shorter shelf life.
